BIO

The song is a true story about a letter being given to a son after the death of his parents, which reveals that he was adopted. His lovely mother, who Brendon knew as a young woman, died some years ago, and when his father passed away last year, he penned the heartbreaking letter to his son.A good friend of the dad confided in Brendon about the letter, which inspired him to write the song the night before the son received it - and in it, Brendon wonders how the son will take the life-changing news. The guitar introduction at the beginning sets the reflective mood of the song. The melody matches the troubling situation, with the minor chords moving around to give the idea of confusion and contemplation.Multi-instrumentalist, Dublin born Fiachra Mac Oireachtai (Fjokra, Lazy Habits) produced the track and has added beautiful accompaniment of ambient sounds to the record, delivering a polished sound. The single comes before the release of his new album also called 'The Letter' is complete with 10 tracks. Each song is filled with Brendon’s renowned charming songwriting. All the songs are guitar-based - Brendon’s staple approach to songwriting - but he teams up with Fiachra to add layers of instrumentation not seen before in his previous work. The single 'This Last Road' is wonderful song that lifts into a melodious chorus - beautifully constructed with the introduction of a bounding acoustic guitar that sounds like it is going on a journey through a scenic field with ‘golden fields’ and ‘big blue skies’, as Brendon describes in the lyrics. This delivery from Brendon is raw and beautiful. His honest and personal approach to songwriting is comforting and classic. Often artists will shy away from being so exposed, which sets it apart from offerings out there right now.Brendon is renowned for his previous works in 1974 with his first album being signed to UK Records. He had later releases with Ariola Records and Magnet Records in the Mid 70’s. Perhaps his biggest song was ‘Gimme Some’ which hit the UK singles charts in 1977, which saw him feature on Top of the Pops on a number of occasions. He has since returned to his folk roots with an album ‘Hold My Hand’ and EP ‘Baby in Space’.Brendon gained success in 1974, at the age of 19, after beating 500 other tapes submitted to Jonathan King to win a record deal with his label, U.K. Records. Speaking of the first encounter with Brendon, King states: “Brendon uses his guitar like a rhythm section. His singing is fairly mature, but the lyrics and melody are teenage.” Through his record deal, Brendon released his debut folk rock album simply “Brendon” that included a Billboard Top Single Pick “Make Me A Dollar Make Me A Dime”. He later released the disco hit “Gimme Some” and “Rock Me” with Magnet Records which saw him feature on Top of the Pops on a number of occasions.
